Collaborative College Workgroup meeting to discuss best practices for mini-grant. The four state universities will be meeting with us to put together a toolkit for use with mini-grant funding to simplify the process and include problem gambling awareness in other campus arenas and activities.

Meeting to discuss partnership and collaboration with treatment locations in the state.

Connecticut Recovery Conference
Attended conference on drug/addiction courts and networked with a large variety of people in the recovery field from pharmaceuticals, rehabilitation facilities to treatment providers.

September 22nd thru 25
Durham Fair
Over 20,000 people in attendance, exhibited with The Way Back, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to a very diverse population.

Meeting to arrange training for clinicians providing counseling services to local families.

Discussed need for financial counselors to be aware of potential gambling issues among clients and possibly training monthly focus group. Asked for a short article on Council’s function for print in newsletter.

Attended Conference and networked with attendees.

Approximately 150 college students in attendance, distributed information and discussed risk reduction with students and faculty; also discussed mini-grant availability with some of the student body.

Networking opportunity to reach out to Business and Workplace population including Employee Assistance Programs.

Attended meeting and networked with attendees. (Approx. 24 attendees)

SCSU Health & Wellness Fair: SCSU, New Haven
Exhibited and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to college students. (Approx: 250 students)

Western Connecticut State University Health and Wellness Fair
Approximately 200 college students in attendance, distributed information and discussed risk reduction with students and faculty. Worked with Midwestern CT. Council on Alcoholism and discussed co-occurring rates of pathological gambling and alcoholism.

October 28
Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative, Central CT State University
Monthly meeting to discuss ATOD grants and addiction studies. Networked with many Colleges on mini-grant programs. Sacred Heart University, Conn College, and Housatonic Valley took grant information. Asked to present at the next meeting in  November.

Middlesex County Health & Wellness Fair and Business Exp: Crowne Plaza, Cromwell
Exhibited and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to attendees at the Expo. (Approx: 500 visitors)

Exhibited and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to attendees at the Expo. (Approx: 300 attendees)

Bridgeport Project Steering Committee meeting: Recovery Network of Programs-Shelton

November 10
CT Association of Non-Profits Annual Conference- Cromwell
Hundreds of people in attendance at the annual conference, primarily from the non-profit sector. Distributed materials and spoke with Representative Abercrombie (D-Meriden) and Senator Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) about the importance of problem gambling awareness among the college population. Reached out to many individuals explaining our mission and treatment/prevention/education opportunities available

November 11
Connecticut 6, Basketball Showcase: Mohegan Sun Arena, CT.
Exhibited and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to attendees of the basketball event at the arena. Distributed pencils and basketball stress-balls to all the children and families in attendance exiting the basketball games.

November 15
South East Regional Action Council Annual Conference-Mystic
Attended conference, workshops included; “Why do They Do That”, discussion on why Teens participate in risky behaviors, primarily addictive ones. “CT Bullying Law”, discussion on new laws “GLBTQ”, group shared on how to reach out to this population in terms of addictions

November 15
National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Conference: Crowne Plaza, Cromwell
Exhibited and distributed problem gambling information and helpline promotional items to attendees of the conference. In addition, networked with attendees, other agencies and organizations. (Approx: 200 visitors) 

November 16
Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Business Expo-Wallingford
Exhibited to an arena of several hundred people, dissemination of information to individuals as well as other agencies. (Approx: 300 visitors)

November 17
Connecticut Psychological Association Annual Conference-Windsor
Reached out to the population of CT Psychologists on the importance of recognizing gambling as a co-occurring disorder, where there is treatment available and how to screen clients.

November 18
Community Renewal Team (CRT) Agency Training/Presentation: New Britain, CT.
Conducted a problem gambling presentation/training to case managers, clinical case managers, LADC Counselors, and a Domestic Violence case manager. (18 attendees)

November 19
Basketball Hall of Fame College Tournament- Mohegan Sun
Disseminated information to college students and families on the risks of internet gambling, underage gambling, awareness/prevention/education on problem gambling.

Agency and Community Outreach in Danbury :
Provided educational materials; i.e. brochures/fact sheets on problem gambling, at several community agencies in Danbury. (4 Agencies)
