Sacred Heart University
As part of CCPG's H.Ed.G.E. Your Bets Mini-Grant program, Sacred Heart University (SHU) gathered survey data on-line from 798 students regarding the issue of gambling on campus. One of the initial results from the survey indicated that 74% are willing or very willing to confront a fellow student with a gambling problem. Sacred Heart University also hosted an event at their women's basketball game.

Southern Connecticut State University
Southern Connecticut State University held an ice cream social, an open meeting with three recovering gamblers, and a luncheon featuring Michelle McBride and Mary Drexler's "Why You Need to Know More about Problem Gambling."

Central Connecticut State University Devil's Den Focus Group
Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) held a Devil's Den focus group on March 5th, the topic being problem gambling. In addition, at CCSU's Stress Busters event on March 18th, CCSU staffed an informational booth.

CT Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Boys' and Girls' High School Basketball Championship
For the first time, the CT Intercollegiate Athletic Conference boys' and girls' high school basketball championship took place at Mohegan Sun. CCPG staffed an informational booth for students, parents, and fans. We are grateful to Mohegan Sun for inviting our participation.

Congratulations: to the Norwich Free Academy girls' team and the Windsor boys' team for their Division LL wins; to the Hillhouse, New Haven girls' team and the Bulkeley, Hartford boys' team for their Division L wins; to the Bacon Academy, Colchester girls' team and the Sacred Heart, Waterbury boys' team for their Division M wins; and to the Old Lyme girls' team and the Cromwell boys' team for their Division S wins.

  S.W.A.G.: Students Witnessing Addictions to Gambling
Social Work Students at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) created a group called S.W.A.G.: Students Witnessing Addictions to Gambling and collectively gave away 500 hot dogs during their notable awareness campaign.  Also included in their programming were the following:  Chalking-up-the-sidewalks event; a presentation by Dr. Lori Rugle, DMHAS' Problem Gambling Services Director, a pizza and movie night featuring "21" and a discussion on problem gambling relating to the movie; and training for all ECSU current and 2009-2010 RAs.

"Youth Gambling: What Parents, Coaches, Teachers, and Treatment Providers Need to Know"
On March 6th, Carlos Reinoso, Prevention Outreach Educator for CCPG, Susan McLaughlin, Prevention Services Coordinator for DMHAS Problem Gambling Services, and Joseph Puzzo, Consultant for the Substance Abuse Action Council of Central Connecticut, presented at the CT Clearinghouse Open House entitled "Youth Gambling: What Parents, Coaches, Teachers, and Treatment Providers Need to Know". Attendees learned what they can do to help young people reduce their risk of developing gambling problems.

The Women's Project Legislative Breakfast/Women's Project Day
The Women's Problem Gambling Project held its annual breakfast meeting on March 11at the Legislative Office Building (LOB), in Hartford, CT.  It was an opportunity to dialogue with legislators about the impact of problem gambling on women gamblers and significant others.  In addition, on March 18 at the LOB, the membership of the Women's Project distributed literature on problem gambling and the resources available to address the issue.

The Women's Problem Gambling Project is a work group whose goal is to increase awareness about and services for women problem gamblers and women affected by a gambling problem. The group is comprised of representatives from Problem Gambling Services, the CT Council on Problem Gambling, the Bettor Choice programs, the CT Lottery, Mohegan Sun, and Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Money Madness: Financial Workshop for High School Students
Money Madness: Financial Workshop for High School Students was held at Connecticut College on March 18th.  Over 150 students interacted with CCPG program staff among other presenters.  For our part, the students became more aware of the impact of problem gambling on themselves, friends and family and learned how to identify the warning signs of problem gambling.  The event was sponsored by Chelsea Groton Bank and North Stonington High Schools.
