Problem Gambling on College Campuses

NASPA formed a Gambling Task Force to examine the effects of problem gambling on college students and to disseminate information about it to college and university professionals. The NASPA Journal published a report which provides seven clear recommendations for Student Affairs Professionals regarding problem gambling. McComb, J.L., & Hanson, W. Your Bets™ G-ATOD mini-grant offering, or as a service to your school.
- Provide in-service education and training about problem gambling to all staff and faculty.
- Include problem gambling on all health surveys.
- Develop and implement education and prevention programs for problem gambling.
- Advocate for the development of university policies to address gambling on campus.
- Support the development and delivery of intervention services for problem gambling.
- Raise awareness of the systemic effects of problem gambling and how college students might be affected by the consequences of a family member’s problem gambling.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration to inform and facilitate research, prevention, assessment, and treatment of problem gambling.
