Orientation Packets; Including Family Packets

Orientation for new students or those transferring from another school includes various brochures, fact sheets, as well as applications for credit cards and more. CCPG is aware of the information overload that may occur to some students in this situation but nonetheless hopes that our message makes it to those who may need it in such a high risk time of life. CCPG will provide the contents of the packets but they will be compiled by the mini-grant coordinator or by student volunteers*.
The packets must include:
- CCPG College brochure
- H.Ed.G.E. Your Bets™ Fact Sheets
- Your selected CCPG Promotional Items
- A schedule of upcoming problem gambling prevention activities on your campus (if applicable)
Optional items left to your discretion:
- A piece of candy (grant coordinator's choice)
- Student and/or Parent Attitudes, Beliefs, and Behaviors Surveys (if part of a research component)**
- to be created by you in collaboration with CCPG
- given to students at new/transfer student orientation
- given to parents at parent orientation
- Your idea here (CCPG approval required)
*If volunteers are too hard to find, a portion of the mini-grant funds may be allocated for reasonable student stipends.
**A New/Transfer-Student Orientation + Family Packet activity may be informative only or may include a research component. For the Research Component, if applicable, the mini-grant coordinator or volunteers could administer a survey at orientation to those students who also agree to be sent a follow-up survey at a later date (perhaps at the end of their first semester) where the students' retention of PG information will be examined. This type of research is valuable as an evaluation of the short term objectives of the program.
Another way to include research in the mini-grant is to solicit parents of New/Transfer-Students to take a short survey about their attitudes and beliefs, or one that examines and dispels myths. An attitudes and beliefs survey of parents of college students is currently needed and can be included in the small package of giveaway items to be given to parents when they drop off their son or daughter for orientation, or when they attend a parent-orientation.
