NATIONAL GAMING IMPACT STUDY COMMISSION STAFF:
PREVETION, A KEY STRATEGY
Speaking to the National Council on Problem Gambling state affiliate councils at the National Conference on Problem Gambling in Las Vegas earlier this month, Tim Kelly, Ph.D., Research Director for the National Gaming Impact Study Commission, identified preventive strategies as a key future priority.
Dr. Kelly encouraged the NCPG to provide leadership in several areas: educating adults to the risk of problem gambling; identifying vulnerable populations; teaching young people about mathematical risks and how gambling works; developing principles for truth in advertising; and working across disciplines (e.g., alcohol and other drugs) to translate other prevention strategies into problem gambling efforts.
