Willie Coleman, PhD, President

Psychologist, Norwich Vet Center

Willie has worked as a Psychologist with the Norwich Vet Center (an agency of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs) for 11 years, serving veterans and their family members. This was preceded by over 25 years as a contractor with the VA’s Readjustment Counseling Service. He has served as the CCPG Board President for the past 15 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University.

Willie is an original member of the Problem Gambling Task Force of Southeastern CT, a member of the American Psychological Association, and former Board President of the New England Institute of Addiction Studies. He also founded the former Care Center, which at one time was the largest outpatient substance abuse care provider in Southeastern Connecticut.

Virginia has been serving on Boards of Directors since the age of 17, beginning as a Youth Member at the Torrington YMCA. While raising three children, she became a CPA as her second career. She is now a Staff Accountant at the firm of D’Agostino and Mazzone in Rocky Hill, CT.

 

Sarah Yip, PhD, Secretary

Assistant Professor of Psychiatry & Child Study, Yale School of Medicine

Dr. Sarah W. Yip is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and of Child Study at Yale School of Medicine and the Director of the Yale Imaging and Psychopharmacology (YIP) Lab.

She received her MSc in Developmental Neuroscience from University College London (2007) and her PhD in Psychiatry from the University of Oxford (2013). Her work focuses on the neurobiology of addictions and mood disorders and has been funded by the UK’s Medical Research Council, the National Center for Responsible Gaming, Beijing Normal University, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF), NIDA and NIAAA.

 

Gregory Adams, Member

Consultant, Fiduciary Investment Advisors

Greg is a Consultant at Fiduciary Investment Advisors, LLC (FIA). His focus is on defined contribution retirement plans, both corporate and tax-exempt. He is proficient in 401(k), 457(b), 401(a), 403(b) and non-qualified plan consulting.

Greg has significant experience building, designing, and managing plans in the defined contribution markets. Before joining FIA, he worked in both institutional and individual wealth management helping to create positive retirement outcomes for plan sponsors and plan participants. Greg also has experience in insurance, tax, and estate planning.

Greg has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from the American College. In his spare time Greg enjoys spending time with his family, surfing in Rhode Island, kayaking, and biking.

 

Alex Clausen, Member

Senior Assurance Associate, CohnReznick

Alex is an accounting professional with over 5 years of experience working for the national public accounting firm, CohnReznick LLP. Currently, he serves as a senior assurance associate based out of CohnReznick’s Hartford office. At CohnReznick, his areas of expertise include audits of manufacturing & distribution companies as well as employee benefit plans.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Bryant University and a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut. Additionally, Alex is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Certified Fraud Examiner in the State of Connecticut.

Alex is also a member of various accounting organizations such as the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

 

David Fleming, Member

David works as a Second Vice President in the Corporate Finance Department at Travelers Insurance Company. He holds an MA in Economics from the University of Hartford and a BA in Economics from Providence College.

David has served on several insurance industry boards in Florida, Illinois and Texas. He is interested in the ever-evolving gambling environment in Connecticut and its implications on the public. Additionally, David volunteers at Healing Meals, Connecticut Stand Down for Veterans Day and the Travelers Championship.

Valerie Tebbetts, Member

Recovery Coach, United Community & Family Services

Val has been involved with the field of Problem Gambling for the last 10 years. She has been a trainer in the State of Connecticut with the staff of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Problem Gambling Services and has presented at the National Council on Problem Gambling’s (NCPG) convention on “Mindfulness Based Recovery” and “Financial Issues and Problem Gambling”.

Val has served as a Peer Counselor at the Bettor Choice treatment program at UCFS Healthcare in Norwich, CT for over 3 years before taking on her current role as a Recovery Coach in UCFS’ opioid treatment program.

She is certified by DMHAS as a Recovery Support Specialist and Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) as a Recovery Coach. She is also certified by the NCPG as an Internationally Certified Gambling Counselor.

 

Sandra Violette, Member

Deputy Warden of Addiction Services, Connecticut Department of Correction

As the Deputy Warden of Addition Services, Sandra is responsible for the addiction treatment of all incarcerated offenders. She began her career in community corrections at Community Renewal Team at several halfway houses and alternative to incarceration centers. She moved into a focus on mental health when she began working for Reliance House in Norwich. Sandra began her career with the Department of Correction in 2005 as a Substance Abuse Counselor at several male facilities, later becoming the Deputy Warden of Addiction Services in 2017.

Sandra holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Connecticut with a minor in Criminal Justice. She received her MSW from the UCONN School of Social Work with a focus on Mental Health and Substance Abuse. She is also a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
